Hello, I am Ryan Chestnutt. I am a candid portrait photographer who is based out of Denver, Colorado.

ABOUT ME

Hello, I am Ryan Chestnutt. I am a candid portrait photographer who is based out of Denver, Colorado.

I’m Ryan Chestnutt, a Denver, Colorado–based photographer specializing in candid and pet photography. Over the past two years, I’ve intentionally developed my craft through hands-on experience and formal training at the Denver School of Photography. I approach photography with both technical precision and creative instinct—because authentic moments deserve to be captured well.

Candid photography is at the heart of what I do. I’m drawn to the in-between moments—the natural laughter, the quiet expressions, the movement, the connection that happens when no one is forcing a pose. Those are the images that feel real years later.

Pets are often part of those stories. Whether it’s a dog’s playful energy on a walk or a calm, unguarded moment between you and your companion, I focus on capturing personality and connection as it naturally unfolds. My sessions are relaxed and intentional, allowing space for genuine emotion instead of stiff direction.

If you value authentic, unscripted photography that captures real personality and connection—whether with your pet or the people you love—I’d love to work with you.
Reach out today to book your session and let’s capture something real.

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of photography do you specialize in?

I specialize in candid portrait photography — capturing genuine, unposed moments that show your personality as it really is. I’m not about stiff smiles or forced poses. My goal is to create photos that feel natural, timeless, and true to you.

Since we live in beautiful Colorado, I love using the outdoors as a backdrop - mountains, trails, open fields, or even your favorite local spot. I also offer pet photography, because our four-legged friends are family too, and they deserve to be part of your story.

How do I book a session?

Booking is simple! Just head to the Booking section of this website. From there, you can choose your preferred date, fill out a short form, and secure your spot.

What should I wear for my session?

The short answer: wear something that feels comfortable, confident, and like yourself. When you feel good, it shows in the photos. Neutral tones, earth colors, and soft pastels usually look great in natural light and help keep the attention on you.

A few things to keep in mind:

  • Keep it simple: avoid loud patterns, neon colors, or big logos — they can pull focus away from the moment.
  • Coordinate, don’t copy: if you’re taking photos with others, choose outfits that complement each other rather than matching exactly.
  • Textures and layers work wonders: knits, denim, light jackets, or scarves can add depth and variety.
  • Be practical: if we’re shooting outdoors, wear something you can move in comfortably. The more comfortable you are, the more natural your photos will look.
  • Options are your friend: bringing along a second outfit or a few accessories gives us flexibility to change things up.

If you’re not sure what works best, don’t stress. I’m happy to help with outfit suggestions based on the season, location, and vibe of your shoot.

How far do you travel for the photoshoot?

Based in Centennial, I photograph across the Denver metro area—capturing portraits, pets, and moments in the places you love most.

When and how will I receive my photos?

Your photos will be delivered through a private online gallery. From there, you can download them. My turnaround time is usually 1–2 weeks, depending on the season, and I’ll always keep you in the loop so you know when to expect your finished gallery.
